MOTOR
BIKES AND SCOOTERS
IN DAMSON PARKWAY AREA
Entry
dated 21 July 2005
‘A
way to rid the nuisance caused by misuse of motor cycles and scooters’
I have received many complaints about the use of motor
cycles and scooters in the Damson Parkway
area. Complaints are of the following:
-Riders and passengers not
wearing helmets,
-Machines being ridden on
footpaths dangerously,
-Excessive noise from revving
of engines,
-Learners having passengers on machines.
Many
many residents are fed up with the behaviour of the owners of these
machines and it must stop. You may have noticed Police
‘off-road’ motor cyclists in the area in recent weeks. This is
because I have contacted the unit to deal with the idiots who are plaguing
your roads and pavements.
Please, if your son has a motor cycle or
scooter, ensure that it is being ridden correctly.
I can help residents who wish, not only to have peace
and quite from the misuse of motor cycles and scooters, but also try to
ensure these youths do not maim or kill themselves or anyone else. Youths
on motor cycles are the fastest climbing in death rates on our roads.
I will regularly take my camera with me when I am in
your area. If I witness any motoring offences by these youths I will take
photographs and pass them on to the police. The offences contravene traffic
laws and the Anti Social Behaviour Act 2003 and machines can be forfeited
if behaviour is not modified. Solihull Police have had success in motor
cycles of regular offenders being crushed.
I have spoken to Solihull Police and they request any
photographs taken by residents of youths committing these type of offences
to be passed on to them. They will no disclose the photographs without
your express consent. By taking photographs they will provide evidence
which the police can take initial action by visiting the youths and parents
to give advice - and a warning. Experience shows that this is usually all
that is required.
I am more than willing to pass any photographs or
numbers of registration plates onto the police. Many residents may be aware
I retired as a police inspector six years ago and am obviously conversant
with police procedures.
Please note, not all youths owning
motorcycles are committing offences. Many, thankfully, are careful
riders. But, parents please check proper use of the machines.
