HOBS MOAT AREA

Anti-Social Behaviour resulting from Ice Rink:

Below is copied a letter I have sent to Chief Superintendent Jim McGinty, Solihull Police.

Chief Superintendent McGinty,

Solihull Police Station,

Homer Road,

Solihull.

8 January 2006.

Dear Jim,

Re: Anti-social dispersal order – Hobs Moat Road.

Firstly I wish you and all your staff at the Solihull OCU a happy, successful and safe 2006.

I read with great pleasure that a dispersal order, under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act, is to take affect in the area of Hobs Moat, Elmdon. As you are aware, I have complained on several occasions on behalf of residents of Elmdon ward about the behaviour of some of the youths attending the ice rink, in Hobs Moat Road, and causing mayhem in Old Lode Lane and roads leading to the ice rink, especially Windsor Drive and Merevale Road.

I do though have concerns that any group of youths which intend to continue to cause problems for the police and residents in the Hobs Moat Road area might merely walk across the road (towards Windsor Drive and Merevale Road) where I presume the dispersal order will not apply. I wish to flag this up to you to ensure that any disorder and anti-social behaviour is not just displaced.

May I also offer you my support (and that of residents) in relation to any action you wish to take over the ice rink? Youths do need places for them to socialise and take part in recreation. It is important however that the management of the ice rink use the facilities in an appropriate manner so that nearby residents are not put in fear when certain events take place.

Yours sincerely,

Ken Hawkins,

Councillor – Elmdon Ward.
